While Telekom and Vodafone mostly rely on products from Huawei, ZTE cooperates with 1 & 1. Behind the 1 & 1 LTE stick, it hides the model number ZTE MF823. In addition, 1 & 1 offers a mobile 4G Router (MF910) at flat rates in connection with his laptop. The LTE Stick is with a non-branded, white version with ZTE logo.

Technical characteristics

1 & 1 LTE-Stick is a solid, typical middle class model. It supports LTE category 3 hardware, so that the downstream hypothetically to 100 Mbit/s could be achieved. For Notebook Flats that was good enough, as the rates offer only up to 50 MBit anyway. The device can communicate at 800, 900, 1800 and 2600 MHz by 4G. Since 1 & 1 only runs on 1.8 GHz, the MF823 stick could also work with other network partners such as Vodafone, O2, E-Plus etc.. But you must unlocked the 1&1 LTE stick. If there is no LTE reception locally, the drive switches to 3G or 2G standards, so that nevertheless could be surfed. If the signal is not good, over 2 sockets (TS-9) also can connect an antenna for improved reception.

Operation and Installation

The installation is quite simple. Like many modern sticks, the 1 & 1 LTE stick also comes now without installing an extra software. The operation and configuration takes place, easily accessible via the browser. After first plugging it starts once a setup. This installs the necessary drivers, as well as an icon on the desktop "4G Hostless Modem" applies. After a short time, it further launches a browser window with the ZTE logo. Until this process is completed, it passed no more than 30 seconds.

Conclusion

A for the 1 & 1 LTE offers quite suitable and uncomplicated stick for a small price. Simply plug in and start surfing - so it should be a good partner to surf internet. But if you prefer the original factory model, you could check the ZTE MF823 directly from www.4gltemall.com .

Netgear Aircard 340u (AT&T Beam) Features

Even though the 4G LTE was becoming the hot topic from last year in new trend, when we talk about some 4G terminals, the first expression is that it’s too old. Yes, since more and more 4G equipments are presented to public, the first generation 4G devices seems to be out of time and it’s the time for new gadgets.   As the important ISP in USA, AT&T is in the first batch operators who deployed 4G networks and launched to commerce. Some contractor with AT&T may know the wireless datacard Sierra Aircard 313u, but they may not know the new Aircard Netgear 340u, the new generation 4G USB Stick. With the new chipset, performance and optimized function, Netgear 340u could fully replace the Aircard 313u.

That’s why we say Sierra Aircard 313u is old. We are not sure whether Sierra Aircard is end of life, but now it’s the time for Netgear aircard 340u. The Aircard 340U is available for AT&T and named AT&T Beam. Today, we will have a look at what is upgraded on Aircard 340.

Chipset

As the core part of a 4G Aircard, the chipset decides how the aircard works and perform, and stability. The aircard 313u is with Qualcomm chipset MDM9200, the Netgear 340u is based on Qualcomm MDM9215 and chipset. The MDM9215 is the new generation chipset with better efficiency than 313u chipset MDM9200.  MDM9215 is optimized on the power consumption and data processing.

Supported 4G Frequency Bands

To use a 4G Aircard, the first concern is the 4G frequency band that the aircard could works with. It decides where you can use and which operator the aircard could use. The Sierra 313u support AT&T 4G band 4 and 17 (700/AWS MHz). The Netgear 340u supports more bands, including Band 2 / 4 / 5 / 17 (700/850/AWS/1900MHz). It covers even other providers’ 4G bands. So the unlocked Netgear 340u can work with not only AT&T SIM card, but also the operators in other countries such as Canada Roger Wireless.

Screen

On the back of Aircard 313u, there is no LED screen, only the logo of AT&T is printed on the back cover. The upgraded AT&T Beam has LED screen, which will show the 4G signal, used data and operator.

USB

The USB design is rotatable for 180 degree, and the USB end could rotate for 360 degree. They both have this feature, which is very user-friendly design.

Category

Netgear 340U is a LTE category 3 USB modem, which could support peak download speed to 100mbps and upload speed to 50Mbps. With the DC-HSPA+/WCDMA and 2G GSM/EDGE/GPRS backward, Aircard 340U could switch between LTE/UMTS/GSM modes.

External Antenna

There are two external antenna connectors in the Netgear 340U. The two connectors are TS-9 connectors; with external antenna, user can improve the data rates obviously with 2 X 2 MIMO.

In conclusion, Netgear 340U is reliable 4G Aircard, especially for North American market. The unlocked one would help users to travel almost all the countries.

Telekom Speed Stick LTE IV Comes From Alcatel W800

The Germany operator Telekom offers a new LTE surf stick- Speed Stick LTE IV from November of 2013. Since in May, a high-end model Speed Stick LTE III was introduced by Huawei, then the new model Speed Stick LTE IV comes from TCT Mobile (Alcatel), which is the same manufacturer as the Speed Stick II LTE. The special feature: a built-in Wi-Fi module will support up to 10 other devices to access internet wirelessly with an Internet connection.

Alcatel W800 LTE WiFi Dongle

The Telekom Speed Stick LTE IV is based on the Alcatel W800, which we have recently been introduced. The chipset is a Qualcomm MDM9215 modem, which supports DC-HSPA+ and GSM/EDGE/UMTS is also backward. As a LTE category 3 WiFi dongle, Telekom Speed stick LTE IV supports up to 100 Mbit/s downstream and 50 Mbit/s for upload. The working LTE frequency bands at 800, 1800 or 2600 megahertz according to their location used. The full LTE speed cannot be reached, in real network environment, the WLAN module can only reaches around 75 MBit/s for downlink, and uplink for wireless connection probably no more than about 30 Mbit/s are available.

Apart from the slot for standard mini-SIM cards, the manufacturer TCT Mobile has also integrates a slot for MicroSD cards supporting up to 32 GB storage. No connectors for an external antenna are available in this dongle. With about 39 grams, Telekom Speed Stick LTE IV is quite easy to take in hand or pocket, the dimensions of 89.0 x 27.5 x 14.0 mm are similar to those of other LTE surf sticks.   Speed Stick LTE models at a glance The Speed Stick LTE IV is now already the fourth LTE Surfstick available at Germany Telekom, and we have summarized the models in a small table below:

Model Manufacturer & Model LTE Category Speed
Speed Stick LTE Huawei E398 Category 3 100 Mbit/s
Speed Stick II LTE Alcatel L100V Category 3 100 Mbit/s
Speed Stick LTE III Huawei E3276 Category 4 150 Mbit/s
Speed Stick LTE IV Alcatel W800 Category 3 100 Mbit/s

The Telekom Speed Stick LTE first generation is only sporadically available through online shops, Telekom no longer sells this device now. As we can see in the table, the name does not necessarily correspond to the quality and the speed of the modem. Thus, the current top model is clearly the Speed Stick LTE III (Huawei E3276) in the 4 models; many users would even classify the first Speed Stick LTE (Huawei E398) best model than the previous, since the reception is very good. Even with the equipment, there are some major differences Between Alcatel and Huawei Speed Stick models, for example, connections for an external antenna, which is not available in Alcatel Sticks.
